Ahmad Zaki: When trust and support pay off
Ahmad Zaki came into the Singapore Fitness Model Search – Showdown! 2017 looking for experience. After letting his Men’s Physique Beach Juniors Champion title sink in, he knew it was only the beginning of a promising career in the fitness world. Learn how “Zack” lived up to the support his friends and family gave him by taking the gold home.
Q. Could you introduce yourself a little?
My name is Ahmad Zaki Bin Ramlan (Zack works too), 22, and I’m a physique athlete currently waiting to serve the National Service. I love hanging out with my friends and spend most of my time at the gym. Besides lifting weights, I also like to bowl and pool leisurely.
Q. What is your athletic background, and how did you get involved with FM League?
I used to be in track and field in secondary school. Besides that, I used to be a footballer under Geylang United Football Club. I was inspired by a few of my friends who have competed in the FM League, and ultimately decided to give it a try.
Q. How does it feel to win the Men’s Physique Beach (Juniors) Overall Champion in FM League’s SFMS Showdown! 2017?
At the start, I did not expect anything but to gain experience. However, the results were overwhelming, and I’m still letting it sink it.
However, I know my years of hard work finally paid off. To me, it’s only the beginning, and it was my pleasure to be competing under FM League.
Q. What were the major milestones that gave you that “extra” motivation boost?
It was the constant encouragement from my mentor, friends and family. They were the ones who put their trust in me and pushed me whenever it got difficult. My dreams and goals would have never happened without them, and I’m grateful to them for that.
Q. What’s your routine like?
I spend six days a week at the gym at about two hours per session doing targeted muscle groups each day.
I usually warm-up with dynamic stretches for about 3 to 5 min and then head off with the muscle group that I would like to work on for the day. My sets are usually 3 to 4 sets of 10 to 12 reps. I hit 6 to 8 exercises for one muscle group and end off with a 30-minute cardio session and some static stretches.
Q. What keeps you motivated?
Aside from my family and friends, I love how fitness gets better given the hard work that I put in. I also hope to inspire others as well and motivate them in any way I possibly could. Also, the people around me (TEAM LIONHEART), because they are the ones who push me at the gym.
Q. Who were your heroes growing up and how did they help inspire you to get involved with fitness?
My family members are my heroes. They have been supportive of my fitness journey from the very beginning till now. I used to be skinny, but with their encouragement, I started lifting weights and started having my passion for bodybuilding.
I also admire athletes like Jeremey Buendia and Jeremey Povtin (both IFBB Pros), because they have the physique I’m aiming for.
Q. Workout music?
My workout playlist consists of EDM, R&B and Hip Hop. I do not have a particular group or singer.
Q. What are your future goals, dreams and plans?
I want to compete overseas, be the best I’ve yet to be, and getting a Pro Card.
